اشتیاق احمد سویڈش سیاسیات کے ماہر اور پاکستانی نژاد آرائیں خاندان کے مصنف و محقق ہیں۔

حالات زندگی

اشتیاق احمد 24 فروری 1947 میں لاہور، پاکستان میں پیدا ہوئے۔ ان کا تعلق پنجابی آرائیں قبیلے سے ہے۔

تعلیم

انھوں نے اسٹاک ہوم یونیورسٹی سے سیاسیات میں پی ایچ ڈی کی ڈگری حاصل کی۔

اشتیاق احمد نے 1986ء میں اسٹاک ہوم یونیورسٹی سے ڈاکٹریٹ کی ڈگری حاصل کی، جہاں انھوں نے بنیاد سے لے کر ڈاکٹریٹ کی سطح تک مختلف کورسز پڑھائے۔

انھوں نے سٹاک ہوم یونیورسٹی سے سیاسیات میں پی ایچ ڈی کی ہے۔ انھوں نے 1970ء کے ضمنی امتحان میں پولیٹیکل سائنس جامعہ پنجاب میں پہلی پوزیشن حاصل کی۔ انھوں نے 1968ء میں فورمن کرسچین کالج کے ایک طالب علم کے ذریعہ تاریخ میں اعلیٰ نمبرات کے لیے مہتا چونی لال گولڈ میڈل جیتا تھا۔ انھیں 1964-68ء کے دوران فورمن کرسچین کالج سے ہر سال اعزازی تذکرہ (Honorable Mention) ملتا تھا۔

عملی زندگی

وہ اسٹاک ہوم یونیورسٹی میں سیاسیات کے پروفیسر ایمریٹس ہیں۔2010 میں ریٹائر ہوئے. وہ نیشنل یونیورسٹی آف سنگاپور میں انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف ساؤتھ ایشین اسٹڈیز کے اعزازی سینئر فیلو بھی ہیں۔ وہ جون 2007ء سے جون 2010ء تک انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف ساؤتھ ایشین سٹڈیز (ISAS) ، نیشنل یونیورسٹی آف سنگاپور اور ساؤتھ ایشین اسٹڈیز پروگرام ، نیشنل یونیورسٹی آف سنگاپور میں وزٹنگ ریسرچ پروفیسر رہے۔ وہ "ایشیائی نسلیات"، "جرنل آف پنجاب سٹڈیز"، "آئی پی آر آئی جرنل، اسلام آباد" اور "پی آئی پی ایس ریسرچ جرنل آف کنفلکٹ اینڈ پیس اسٹڈیز، اسلام آباد" کے ادارتی مشاورتی بورڈز کے رکن ہیں۔ اب وہ بطور وزیٹنگ پروفیسر گورنمنٹ کالج یونیورسٹی، لاہور میں خدمات انجام دے رہے ہیں۔

2015-2019 کے دوران میں گورنمنٹ کالج یونیورسٹی، لاہور میں وزٹنگ پروفیسر تھے اور 2013-2015 میں لاہور یونیورسٹی آف مینجمنٹ سائنسز (LUMS) میں وزٹنگ پروفیسر تھے۔

کارہائے نمایاں

سیاسی نظریہ جیسے مرکزی دھارے کے مضامین پڑھانے کے علاوہ انھوں نے جنوبی ایشیا کی سیاست (بنیادی طور پر پاکستان اور بھارت؛ بلکہ بنگلہ دیش اور سری لنکا)، مختلف سیاق و سباق اور عالمی سیاست میں سیاسی اسلام، انسانی حقوق، کثیر الثقافتی نسلیت، شناخت اور قوم پرستی پر لیکچر دیا اور لکھا۔
