عقیدہ ختم نبوت کی تعریف اسلام کی بنیاد توحید اور آخرت کے علاوہ جس اساسی عقیدے پر ہے، وہ یہ ہے کہ نبی آخر الزمان حضرت محمد مصطفی صلی اللہ علیہ والہ وسلم پر نبوت اور رسالت کے مقدس سلسلے کی تکمیل ہو گئی اور آپ کے بعد کوئی بھی شخص کسی بھی قسم کا نبی نہیں بن سکتا اور نہ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ والہ وسلم کے بعد کسی پر وحی آ سکتی ہے اور نہ ایسا الہام جو دین میں حجت ہو۔ اسلام کا یہی عقیدہ ’’ختم نبوت‘‘ کے نام سے معروف ہے اور سرکارِ دو عالم صلی اللہ علیہ والہ وسلم کے وقت سے لے کر آج تک پوری امت مسلمہ کسی ادنی اختلاف کے بغیر اس عقیدے کو جزوِ ایمان قرار دیتی آئی ہے۔
